SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN
Technician I
- $2,000-$2,500 per month
Technician II - $2,500-$3,200 per month
Definition:
Under general
supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled installation services, maintenance,
modification and repair activities; and performs related work as required.
Class Characteristics:
Systems Technician I is
the entry-level into the field installation services and maintenance, initially
under close supervision. Applicant shall have basic electrical /electronic
maintenance experience, use of tools and equipment and a wide variety of
practices and procedures. As experience and competence is gained, assignments
become more varied and are performed with greater independence. This position
may advance to the higher level after gaining the skill and experience, which
meet the qualifications for, and demonstrating the ability to perform the work
in an advanced-journey level, responsible for performing skilled work in a
specific area of expertise requiring special licenses and/or certification.
Examples of Key
Duties: (Duties
are illustrative and not inclusive and may vary with individual assignments.)

Performs
skilled and semi-skilled installation, service and maintenance activities depending
upon area of assignment including performing basic trade activities such as
electrical, electronic system integration.

Troubleshoots,
programs and repairs systems; using a variety of hand, power tools and
electrical/electronic test equipment.
·
Maintains
logs and records of work performed and materials and equipment used.
·
Maintains
a variety of hand and power tools ensuing they are in safe and efficient
working order.
·
Inventories
and requests equipment and supplies.
·
Responds
to call-outs and emergencies as required.
·
Instruct
and guide apprentice employees in basic work procedures and safe working
practices.
·
Performs
other duties of a similar level or nature.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Systems Technician I:
Possession of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) and
one year of assignment-related maintenance experience; or an equivalent
combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the
essential duties of the job as listed above.
Systems Technician II:
In addition to the above, two years of experience performing skilled or
semi-skilled installation, maintenance and service duties equivalent to those
of the class of Systems Technician I.
Licenses:
Possession and maintain a valid drivers license and a
satisfactory driving record.
At the option of the company, persons hired into these classes may be required
to possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits designated licenses,
certificates or specialized education and training relevant to the area of
assignment. Additional requirements may include, but are not limited to:

Alarm Technicians License

Burglar
Alarm License

Systems Technician License
Physical Requirements and
Working Conditions:
Must possess strength, stamina and mobility to perform
physical work out of doors in all weather conditions and with exposure to
potentially hazardous conditions, use varied hand and power tools, drive a
motor vehicle and/or construction equipment; lift and move materials and
equipment weighing up to 90 pounds and heavier weights with the use of proper
equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing
and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone and/or radio. Must be
available for regular standby assignments and work scheduled off-hours and
emergency overtime as required.
Knowledge of: (at entry)
Maintenance Technician I:
Basic repair and maintenance techniques and practices;
Safe work practices and policies;
Safe driving rules and practices; and
Basic shop arithmetic.
System Technician II:
In addition to the above:
General repair and maintenance techniques and practices;
Operation and minor maintenance of a variety of hand and power tools, vehicles
and power equipment;
Safety equipment and practices related to the work.
Basic inventory and record keeping practices.
Skills in:
System Technician I:
Performing basic repair and maintenance activities;
Using hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner;
Understanding and following oral and written directions;
Working independently or in a team situation; and
Communication and effective interaction with co-workers, managers, subordinates
and the general public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give
and receive work direction.
System Technician II:
In addition to the above:
Performing semi-skilled construction, modification,
maintenance and repair work on a variety of equipment;
Maintaining accurate logs and basic written records of work performed;
Inventorying supplies and materials;
Troubleshooting basic maintenance problems and determining solutions; and
Making accurate arithmetic calculations.
